MPR Urges Government to Withdraw All TNI Troops from Lebanon, Here's Why!
Jakarta – The People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) of the Republic of Indonesia has requested that the government withdraw all peacekeeping troops from southern Lebanon after three TNI soldiers were killed in an Israeli attack.
MPR Chairman Ahmad Muzani stated that this aligns with the constitutional mandate requiring the government to protect its citizens.
“In accordance with the constitution, which mandates the protection of the entire Indonesian nation and homeland, Indonesia should withdraw its troops from that peacekeeping mission because it is a dangerous area for TNI safety, as occurred in southern Lebanon,” said MPR Chairman Ahmad Muzani during a press conference at the Senayan Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday, 31 March 2026.
On the other hand, the MPR strongly condemns Israel’s attack in southern Lebanon that killed three TNI soldiers. He urged the UN to hold an investigation session regarding the incident.
“The leadership of the People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia, with 732 members, strongly condemns Israel’s barbaric actions against our best sons who were carrying out a peacekeeping mission, which is a constitutional duty and responsibility in maintaining peace in southern Lebanon. In accordance with the UN mandate, they are stationed there under the UN Security Council’s mandate,” Muzani emphasised.
He hopes that the withdrawal of peacekeeping troops from vulnerable areas will be considered by the government. According to him, this is in line with the constitutional mandate to safeguard the nation’s safety.
“If there is no safety guarantee for our peacekeeping mission troops, who are peacekeepers, then the MPR requests that the government consider withdrawing all troops in southern Lebanon in accordance with the constitution,” he concluded.
