Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR RI) Hidayat Nur Wahid (HNW) has urged foreign ministers from Board of Peace (BoP) member states to take effective steps to realise peace and independence for the state of Palestine following Israel’s rejection of the peace proposal.

According to HNW, Israel has shown its true colours as being opposed to the establishment of a Palestinian state by rejecting the BoP peace proposal on 10 August 2026.

“Israel’s arrogant attitude and rejection not only exposes its true face once again, but in essence also slaps the face of United States President Donald Trump, who is the initiator and leader of the BoP. It is therefore only proper that pressure on Israel, especially on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, should be carried out more effectively by Donald Trump himself,” HNW said in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.

HNW said that eight foreign ministers of BoP supporting member states — namely Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Indonesia, Qatar, the UAE and Jordan — have issued a joint statement rejecting Israel’s stance.

He urged the eight foreign ministers of BoP supporting member states to immediately take more effective steps, so that the statement on the importance of regional peace with Palestine remaining present as an independent state, under a two-state solution scheme with East Jerusalem as its capital, can be realised.

The BoP member states, he said, need to urge Donald Trump and the international community to exert more effective and stronger pressure, and if necessary accompanied by the threat of firm sanctions against Israel.

With such a firm stance, Israel can be pressed to truly implement the peace agreement, open humanitarian aid, and rebuild Gaza.

The politician from the Jakarta electoral district assessed that the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ stance of regretting and rejecting Israel’s anti-peace attitude deserves support.

He said the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs needs to play a more optimal role in orchestrating international pressure on Israel, in line with the authority granted by President Prabowo Subianto.

“Moreover, with the momentum of the 81st anniversary of Indonesian independence, it is time for the Indonesian Government to prove its commitment to Palestinian independence,” he said.

Not only that, he said, this commitment also fulfils the government’s promise to leaders of Islamic mass organisations, as well as answers criticism from many parties at home, especially pro-Palestine activists, regarding Indonesia’s stance in joining as a BoP member.

“The government certainly will not remain silent when the peace plan initiated by the BoP has instead been rejected outright by Israel,” he explained.

Moreover, HNW continued, the stance of resistance groups in Palestine also tends to be responsive and accepting of the peace proposal.

“So, the core of the problem is Israel’s attitude, which is indeed opposed to all forms of peace, and which seeks to continue controlling and colonising the Gaza Strip,” he explained.

In fact, he continued, Israel is expanding its occupied territory into Palestinian areas outside Gaza such as the West Bank and Jerusalem. If this is allowed to continue, besides perpetuating the occupation, it will also erase the aspiration for an independent Palestinian state.

Yet, he continued, 156 UN member states to date have recognised Palestinian independence.

HNW expressed hope that on the momentum of the 81st anniversary of Indonesian independence, the Indonesian Government will carry out more effective communication with BoP supporting countries, especially the United States, whose president is known to be close to the Israeli prime minister, in order to press Israel to realise Palestinian peace.

“President Donald Trump needs to be reminded that his ‘efforts’ to create peace are in fact being obstructed and rejected by Prime Minister Netanyahu, who is supposedly known to be close to and to listen to Donald Trump, the figure who initiated the formation of the BoP, a political step that was approved as Resolution 2803 of the UN Security Council,” he asserted.

HNW said that if Israel rejects or fails to comply with the peace plan submitted by the BoP in accordance with the mandate of the UN Security Council, then it is only proper that the matter be referred back to the UN Security Council, so that Israel can be subjected to firm and severe sanctions.

“Because Israel’s stance this time is not in line with United States policy, this time the United States should also no longer use its veto power to defend Israel, so that peace can truly be delivered in accordance with President Trump’s hopes, and in accordance with the hopes of the people of Gaza,” he said.

“And the eight BoP supporting countries that issued the joint statement above, namely with the entry of humanitarian aid, the cessation of military attacks and the rebuilding of Gaza as well as the establishment of an independent Palestinian state,” he added.
