MPR to Implement Cost-Saving Measures from 1 April: Staff to Work from Home, Electricity Use Restricted
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) of the Republic of Indonesia will begin implementing budget and energy-saving policies from 1 April 2026.
These policies include regulating staff work through work-from-home (WFH), work-from-anywhere (WFA), and restrictions on electricity usage in the office environment.
MPR Secretary General Siti Fauziah stated that these steps are a follow-up to the savings directive applicable to government institutions.
“So, with this savings directive, we at the MPR are implementing WFA and WFH. This starts from 1 April tomorrow. The rules have already been initiated, and electricity savings are being carried out by limiting working hours,” said Siti during a press conference at the Parliamentary Complex, Jakarta, on Monday (31/3/2026).
Therefore, all activities are expected to be completed by a maximum of 5:00 PM Western Indonesia Time.
In addition, the MPR is also regulating staff work patterns to four working days per week.
Meanwhile, on Fridays, a duty roster system is implemented with a limited number of staff in each unit.
“So, there is a special arrangement where we will implement four working days, with Fridays having a duty roster division,” said Siti.
In detail, Siti explained that on Fridays, each work unit is represented by only two staff members, while the others work from home or other locations.
“Yes, so because we don’t rule out the possibility of activities involving leadership or members on Fridays. So, there is a duty roster, with each unit represented by only two people. The others WFH or WFA. That’s what we are implementing,” she said.
The work schedule division is carried out proportionally by echelon II officials in each unit.
She also emphasised that MPR leadership will continue their activities as usual in the office.
The restrictions only apply to secretariat staff.
