MPR Speaker: Release of Indonesian citizens from Israeli detention proves the state is present

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the MPR RI Eddy Soeparno said the success in freeing Indonesian nationals who were briefly detained by Israeli authorities is tangible evidence that the state is present in protecting its people wherever they are. Accordingly, he expressed high appreciation and utmost respect to President Prabowo Subianto and Foreign Minister Sugiono, as well as all ranks of the Foreign Ministry and related agencies, for moving quickly to take diplomatic steps.

‘I extend my high appreciation to President Prabowo, Foreign Minister Sugiono, and all levels of government for the swift, precise, and effective diplomacy that enabled our citizens to be freed in good health. This shows the state’s strong commitment to protect its people,’ Eddy said in a statement in Jakarta on Friday.

Eddy also expressed gratitude for the release of the Indonesian citizens who are now preparing to return to the homeland.

‘Praise be to Allah SWT that our brothers and sisters have been freed. They are now being prepared to return to Indonesia. We pray that the entire journey back to the country and to their respective homes goes smoothly, safely, and with health,’ he said.

During the occasion, Eddy also condemned Israel’s government for violating international law and universal humanitarian principles.

‘We condemn the actions of the Israeli government for violating international law and disregarding the principles of humanity. The safety of civilians and humanitarian workers must be respected and guaranteed,’ Eddy said.

While understanding the public solidarity of Indonesians with the Palestinian people’s struggle, Eddy urged that any humanitarian action in conflict areas be undertaken with caution and with consideration of safety factors.

‘We call on our fellow countrymen who are concerned with humanitarianism to remain cautious in carrying out future humanitarian actions. The risks are not small, and we must not put the safety of the nation’s children at stake,’ he said.

At the end of his remarks, Eddy again offered prayers for the Palestinian people, especially in Gaza, that they swiftly attain peace, justice, and restoration of their rights and dignity as a free nation.

‘We continue to pray for our brothers and sisters in Gaza and Palestine to promptly restore sovereignty, rights, and dignity, and to be kept away from violence and aggression that have long afflicted the Palestinian people,’ said the member of Commission XII of the DPR RI.
