MPR Speaker: President concerned about many regional heads trapped in corruption
Jakarta (ANTARA) — Ahmad Muzani, Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR RI), said President Prabowo Subianto expressed concern over the prevalence of regional heads being arrested in corruption cases during a meeting with the MPR leadership at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Monday.
“He is deeply concerned about the various incidents occurring in the regions, where many regional heads have become ensnared in corruption. That is why he asked for this issue to receive serious attention and careful thought,” Muzani said at a press conference following the meeting with President Prabowo Subianto.
Muzani said the concern arises because corruption cases involving regional heads occur amid an expensive, unique and exhausting democratic process for establishing regional governance.
The issue of democratisation and regional governance was also highlighted by President Prabowo in the concept of the State Policy Guidelines (Pokok-Pokok Haluan Negara, PPHN), which the MPR leadership submitted to him on Monday.
“The President paid close attention to various points, including the democratisation process and so on,” Muzani explained.
He said that on the occasion, the MPR leadership handed over the PPHN concept to President Prabowo Subianto, and the discussion took place in a productive and open atmosphere.
“In principle, the President has left it to the People’s Consultative Assembly to make the State Policy Guidelines a reference across successive administrations,” Muzani said.
During the meeting, the MPR leadership also invited President Prabowo Subianto to attend the MPR Annual Session, planned for 14 August 2026.
The MPR leadership invited President Prabowo Subianto, as Head of State, to deliver the annual report on the performance of ministries and state institutions on that occasion.
Besides MPR Speaker Ahmad Muzani, the meeting with the President was attended by Deputy Speakers Lestari Moerdijat, Eddy Soeparno, Hidayat Nur Wahid, Bambang Pacul and Rusdi Kirana.
