MPR Speaker: Pancasila Must Be Tangible in How the State Protects Its People

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) of the Republic of Indonesia, Ahmad Muzani, has stressed that Pancasila must be visibly real in the way the state protects its people.

He said this must be evident in how the law is enforced, including continued efforts to make eradicating corruption a priority, how national wealth is managed, and how the people unite amid their differences.

“That is the value and spirit of Pancasila,” Muzani said while delivering his opening address at the 2026 MPR Annual Session and the Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Friday.

According to him, every time the Indonesian nation returns to Pancasila as a common meeting point, all elements of the nation gain tremendous energy and a path to rise together.

In its historical journey, Muzani said Pancasila has repeatedly faced tests. The Indonesian nation has experienced political upheaval, ideological conflict, inter-group tension, economic crisis, communal violence, the threat of separatism, terrorism, and even a pandemic.

Nevertheless, as the foundation of the state, Pancasila is the greatest common meeting point the Indonesian nation has ever achieved.

“Pancasila was formulated through debate, reflection, and a willingness to find a path acceptable to all groups,” he said.

On Friday, the MPR, DPR, and DPD held the MPR Annual Session and the Joint Session of the DPR and DPD.

One of the agenda items was President Prabowo Subianto’s address presenting the performance reports of state institutions and the State Address of the President of the Republic of Indonesia in commemoration of the 81st anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Indonesia.

In addition to the address, the government will also screen a video of government performance achievements.

This annual session is a state agenda to welcome the 81st anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Indonesia, which carries the theme “A Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia.”
