MPR Speaker: Indonesia Endures Because of the Strength of a United People

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) of the Republic of Indonesia Ahmad Muzani has said the Republic of Indonesia can endure not because of abundant wealth and international support that have been available from the outset, but because of the strength of a united people.

“Indonesia is a shared home that is worth fighting for,” Muzani said while delivering his introductory address at the 2026 Annual Session of the MPR RI and the Joint Session of the DPR-DPD RI at the parliamentary complex, Jakarta, Friday.

Accordingly, he said unity is what brings about progress. If unity weakens, the great energy of the Indonesian nation will be spent on mutual suspicion and mutual negation.

Nevertheless, if the unity of the Republic of Indonesia remains strong, he continued, differences can be turned into a source of energy and progress.

Muzani noted that on Monday (17/8), the entire Indonesian nation will commemorate the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia.

Therefore, in this honourable joint session forum, he said all parties present are not merely attending a constitutional ceremony, but are reaffirming a promise to the beloved Republic.

“A promise that the independence we inherited from the nation’s founders will continue to be safeguarded. A promise that political differences will not divide national brotherhood,” he said.

For that reason, he added, Indonesia is not a sign of victory of one group over another, but rather the willingness of all groups to fight for a greater ideal.

“It is from the greatness of those noble souls that the Republic of Indonesia was born,” Muzani said.

On Friday, the MPR RI, DPR RI, and DPD RI held the Annual Session of the MPR RI and the Joint Session of the DPR RI-DPD RI.

One of the items on the agenda was the Address by President Prabowo Subianto for the Delivery of the Performance Report of State Institutions and the State Address of the President of the Republic of Indonesia in the context of the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia.

In addition to the address, the government will also screen a video of government performance achievements.

This annual session is a state agenda to welcome the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia, which carries the theme of a Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia.
