MPR Speaker Hopes Gontor Will Continue Producing Outstanding, Competitive Students
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Speaker Ahmad Muzani hopes Gontor Islamic Boarding School will continue to produce outstanding students who can compete both nationally and internationally.
He said Gontor had made a major contribution to the Muslim community, the nation and religion, noting that many national leaders and intellectuals had emerged from the school.
Muzani made the remarks while attending an event to hand over assistance from President Prabowo Subianto to Gontor Islamic Boarding School in Ponorogo, East Java, on Friday.
“Hopefully, Gontor will remain consistent in making its best contribution to the Muslim community, the people, our nation and state, and religion,” Muzani said in a statement received in Jakarta.
He also urged the students to study seriously, be obedient pupils and understand the lessons taught by their teachers.
In addition, he called on all students to be people who continually do good for others. Such good deeds, he said, would be remembered for the benefit of fellow members of the Muslim community and the Indonesian nation.
“We can see that many Gontor alumni now hold leadership positions in this country, in the executive, legislative and judicial branches, among others. This is because Gontor continues to teach its students to do good,” he said.
The President’s assistance was provided to encourage the students to study with greater enthusiasm and become intelligent people who can benefit others.
The assistance was handed over on the President’s behalf by Deputy Minister of State Secretariat Juri Ardiantoro, in the presence of Muzani and Gerindra Party lawmaker Endipat.
The delegation was warmly welcomed by Gontor Islamic Boarding School leader KH Hasan Abdullah Sahal.
“The President entrusted this assistance to us, and we are passing it on to Gontor to support the students so they can study well and become people who benefit others, as well as the nation and state,” Juri said.
