MPR Speaker: Earth, Water and Natural Wealth Controlled by the State for the People
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Ahmad Muzani has affirmed that Indonesia’s natural resources, land and water are absolutely controlled by the state for the welfare of all the people, in accordance with the mandate of Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution.
The mandate is then strategically elaborated through the Decree of the People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia Number 9/MPR/2001 concerning Agrarian Reform and Natural Resource Management.
“The management of our natural resources must be based on justice, sustainability and ecological preservation,” said Muzani when opening the Annual Session of the MPR-RI and the Joint Session of the DPR-RI and DPD-RI in Jakarta on Friday (14/8/2026).
Therefore, according to him, the centralised export governance policy through PT Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (DSI) demonstrates a serious effort by the state, particularly in strengthening influence and competitiveness in global trade.
“We are also witnessing how the government has adopted a policy on one-door export governance through PT Danantara Sumber Daya Indonesia, which clearly strengthens the country’s bargaining position in global trade,” he said.
In addition, he stressed that sovereignty is the nation’s ability to determine its own path, safeguard its territory, protect its people, manage its wealth, and take a stance based on national interests and the principles it believes in.
“Our constitution provides a clear direction: Indonesia is obliged to participate in implementing world order based on independence, lasting peace and social justice. Therefore, a free and active foreign policy means being free to determine a position based on national interests, without siding with any bloc whatsoever,” he added.
