People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Speaker Ahmad Muzani has confirmed he will fly to Mashhad, Iran, to attend the funeral of the country’s former Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on Thursday evening. Muzani will travel alongside Foreign Minister Sugiono as a special envoy of President Prabowo Subianto. “The plan is for the Indonesian delegation to depart for Iran tomorrow night. We will fly directly from Jakarta to Mashhad, the city that will be the final resting place of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei,” Muzani said after a visit to the Constitutional Court building in Jakarta on Wednesday. According to Muzani, the delegation is expected to arrive in Iran on Friday around 6 a.m. local time and will proceed directly to the burial site before Friday midday. “The delegation is estimated to arrive in Mashhad on Friday at 6 a.m. We are expected to reach the final resting place before Friday prayers,” he said. Muzani added that several religious scholars would join the delegation, though he declined to disclose their names. He also stated that the group would not stay overnight in Iran, planning to return to Jakarta immediately after the funeral and official meetings with local officials. “We arrive in the morning, the burial is in the morning, followed by a visit in the afternoon, and then we are scheduled to meet with the Foreign Minister and the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament. After that, we will return directly to Jakarta,” he said.
