Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the MPR RI, Lestari Moerdijat, hopes that universities or higher education institutions will implement the recommendations of Komnas Perempuan in preventing and protecting women from violence in the educational environment.

Several recommendations were submitted by Komnas Perempuan to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology at the end of February 2026, to strengthen the protection mechanism for women in the educational environment.

“We very much hope that these recommendations can be implemented as soon as possible by higher education providers in the country,” Lestari said in her statement in Jakarta on Thursday.

Lestari explained that strengthening the mechanism for preventing and protecting women from violence on campus must continue to be refined to realise a safe and comfortable educational environment for the nation’s next generation.

According to her, the presence of Ministerial Regulation on Education, Culture, Research, and Technology No. 55 of 2024 on the Prevention and Handling of Violence in the Higher Education Environment (PPKPT) shows a more systematic direction in realising a sustainable protection mechanism.

“However, its effectiveness in implementation still faces several challenges in the field,” she said.

Several recommendations submitted by Komnas Perempuan include, she said, the creation of guidelines for implementing Ministerial Regulation on Education, Culture, Research, and Technology No. 55 of 2024, including the expansion of the definition of intolerance and discrimination.

In addition, she continued, the Ministry of Education is encouraged to increase the capacity of the Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Violence in Higher Education (Satgas PPKPT), pay attention to small-scale private universities, and integrate indicators of violence prevention and handling into the evaluation and accreditation system for higher education.

Furthermore, Komnas Perempuan also emphasised the importance of strengthening the monitoring and reporting mechanism for the implementation of Ministerial Regulation on Education, Culture, Research, and Technology No. 55 of 2024 on a regular basis.

According to her, the recommendations conveyed by Komnas Perempuan must be realised as best as possible as part of efforts to perfect the existing protection mechanism.

Lestari stated that it is essential in implementing a policy involving several institutions to have a common understanding of the policy to be implemented.

Thus, she continued, clear and easily understood implementation guidelines are needed for all field officers.

The member of Commission X of the DPR RI hopes that with the implementation of these recommendations, a safe and comfortable teaching and learning environment for the entire academic community can soon be realised to encourage the birth of strong-charactered and competitive citizens in the future.
