Regional development requires sustainable financing support so that various strategic programmes can continue to operate. Amid these needs, regional bonds are considered an instrument with the potential to support development financing while opening up space for public participation through investment. Through regional bonds, local governments have an alternative source of financing outside the regional budget (APBD) to support infrastructure development, improve public services, and develop the economic sector. On the other hand, the public also has the opportunity to participate in development through investment instruments managed in accordance with applicable regulations. After absorbing aspirations from various regions in a previous series of symposiums, including in Palembang, the People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia (MPR RI) is continuing the agenda in Pekanbaru, Riau. The National Symposium, themed ‘Regional Bonds as an Alternative for Regional Financing and Public Investment Instruments’, will be held on Monday (20/7/2026) at 13.00 WIB at the Hotel Pangeran Pekanbaru. Through this forum, speakers representing the legislature, government, state-owned enterprises, the private sector, and academia will discuss various perspectives on regional bonds, ranging from policy aspects, development financing, implementation opportunities in Indonesia, to their potential as public investment instruments. This symposium is expected to enrich public understanding of regional financing innovation while encouraging sustainable development.
