Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Chairman of the MPR RI, Eddy Soeparno, received a visit from the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Indonesia, Abdulla Salem Al Dhaheri, and discussed efforts to expand cooperation between Indonesia and the UAE, particularly in the field of renewable energy.

According to Eddy, the meeting took place amid the momentum of 50 years of diplomatic cooperation and friendship between the Indonesian Government and the UAE. He assessed that the UAE has shown strong commitment to supporting the development of renewable energy in Indonesia.

“The two countries continue to strive to strengthen Indonesia-UAE cooperation and follow up on various MoUs that have already been agreed upon, particularly in the field of renewable energy development,” said Eddy at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Wednesday.

According to him, the UAE, through its UAE energy company Masdar, is managing the floating solar panel project in Cirata, West Java, which is planned to be further expanded and become the world’s largest floating solar power plant.

He viewed the investment expansion plan for the solar panels as full support for President Prabowo Subianto’s government mission to accelerate the transition to renewable energy, including the 100 gigawatt (GW) solar panel programme across Indonesia.

“We also conveyed to the Ambassador that we in the MPR continue to push for the steps and commitment of President Prabowo to accelerate the transition to renewable energy, including by accelerating the Oil and Gas Bill, the New and Renewable Energy and Electricity Bill, and the Climate Change Management Bill,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Abdulla Salem Al Dhaheri expressed thanks to Eddy Soeparno for supporting the UAE’s initiatives and investment plans in the field of renewable energy and the environment.

“Our presence at the MPR today is an effort to strengthen Indonesia-UAE cooperation while expressing thanks to Deputy Chairman of the MPR, Mr Eddy Soeparno, who has bridged and supported the UAE in various efforts to support the Indonesian Government in accelerating the transition to renewable energy,” said Abdulla.
