MPR Leadership Urges ESDM to Strengthen 2027 Budget for Renewable Energy Sector

Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) RI Eddy Soeparno has asked the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) to evaluate its 2027 budget ceiling by strengthening support for the new and renewable energy (EBT) sector. According to Eddy, budgetary support for the EBT sector aligns with Indonesia’s commitment to transitioning towards clean and green energy. “We express the hope that the ESDM Ministry will increase the budget in the EBT sector. This is certainly to demonstrate Indonesia’s seriousness in accelerating the energy transition,” Eddy said in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday. Eddy observed that the budget for the EBT sector, at approximately Rp1.5 trillion, is smaller compared to the oil and gas and electricity sectors, which are valued at Rp11.4 trillion and Rp10.3 trillion respectively. Eddy specifically requested that the ESDM Ministry conduct an evaluation so that there is an increase in the budget ceiling for the EBT sector to show seriousness in accelerating the energy transition and expediting the decarbonisation of the national economy. On the other hand, Eddy appreciated the overarching theme of the ESDM Ministry’s 2027 budget in the context of strengthening “energy resilience” and “energy equity” through programmes such as gas networks, village electricity, and the New Electricity Installation Assistance (BPBL). He stated that the ESDM Ministry’s budget commitment to building village electricity networks and providing free electricity installation assistance deserves appreciation. “We also convey our appreciation for the ESDM Ministry’s budget commitment to building village electricity networks and free electricity installation assistance, so that energy equity reaches communities in all corners of the archipelago,” said Eddy.
