President Prabowo Subianto has expressed full support for the formulation of the State Policy Guidelines (PPHN) to serve as a national development compass applicable across different administrations. Prabowo believes the PPHN should be established through the mechanism of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) to ensure it provides a sustainable direction for development, not limited to a single government term. This was conveyed by MPR Speaker Ahmad Muzani following a meeting with President Prabowo at the Presidential Palace complex in Central Jakarta on Monday, 3 August 2026. According to Muzani, Prabowo is of the view that the PPHN must become a long-term reference for future Indonesian governments. “In principle, the President entrusts the People’s Consultative Assembly to make the State Policy Guidelines a compass for cross-administration governance,” Muzani told reporters. Prabowo stressed that the existence of the PPHN is not intended solely to support the current administration, but rather to serve as a direction for national development spanning various leadership periods. “Because the PPHN is not meant for a temporary government, but to be a direction for the journey of governance across various periods,” he stated. Consequently, Muzani said, Prabowo has fully handed over the process to the MPR to finalise and establish the PPHN according to constitutional mechanisms. “Therefore, the President leaves it to the MPR mechanism to establish the PPHN as a guideline for future presidencies,” he said. During the discussion, Prabowo also paid significant attention to several substantive points within the PPHN concept, particularly those related to the democratic process and regional governance. “Because of that, the President welcomed these ideas. In fact, the President gave great attention to various points, including the process of democratisation and the administration of regional government,” Muzani revealed. One issue of concern for Prabowo is the high cost of implementing democracy at the regional level. According to Muzani, Prabowo assessed that the democratic process in regional head elections carries significant consequences. “One of them is that the President considers the process of regional government administration to be carried out through a democratic process that is expensive, unique, and very exhausting,” he said. On the other hand, Prabowo also expressed concern over the number of regional heads who end up entangled in corruption cases after being elected through that democratic process.
