MPR Leadership Inspects IKN Readiness and Discusses Institutional Relocation

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The leadership of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) of the Republic of Indonesia carried out a working visit to the Nusantara Capital (IKN), East Kalimantan, to inspect infrastructure readiness while discussing plans for relocating institutions to the new capital.

Acting Secretary General of the MPR RI, Siti Fauziah, stated that the visit was attended by MPR leaders, faction leaders, and leaders of MPR supporting bodies.

“The aim is to view the MPR plot, airport readiness, toll roads, and various other preparations related to the planned relocation of the MPR to IKN,” Siti said in her statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.

She emphasised that plans for relocating state institutions, including the MPR, are still awaiting presidential instructions. According to her, the relocation of civil servants (ASN) from legislative, executive, and judicial elements will occur after all infrastructure is declared ready.

“If we relocate, it depends on the President’s instructions. The important thing is that once it’s ready, we will relocate the ASN,” she said.

At the OIKN office, the MPR leadership delegation received a presentation on the development progress of the area.

“There, we saw a presentation on IKN’s progress. After that, we also inspected the MPR plot to see how far the progress has come,” Siti said.

In addition, the group inspected several supporting facilities, such as the state mosque and health facilities that have been prepared in the IKN area.

Regarding the construction of the MPR building in IKN, Siti mentioned that the basic concept and initial design have actually been prepared since 2022. However, several adjustments are still possible to align with current needs.

“A rough outline and detailed room layouts are already in place; they just need to be adjusted to current requirements,” she said.

She also acknowledged efficiency factors in construction but still considered the strategic needs of the relocation to IKN.

“Efficiency is indeed a factor, but the relocation needs are also there. So, it will be adjusted accordingly,” she said.

The visit was led by MPR RI Chairman Ahmad Muzani along with the Deputy Chairmen of the MPR, namely Bambang Wuryanto, Rusdi Kirana, Hidayat Nur Wahid, and Eddy Soeparno.
