MPR Leader States Indonesia Enters Safe Zone After Russia Oil-LPG Agreement

Deputy Chairman of the MPR, Eddy Soeparno, has positively welcomed the agreement reached by Indonesia to supply oil and gas from Russia. Eddy stated that there is now no need to worry about oil supplies any longer.

“I think this is good news for us, and we certainly greatly appreciate the energy diplomacy carried out by Mr President which has borne fruit,” Eddy said to reporters at the MPR/DPR building in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (15/4/2026).

Eddy said that Indonesia has recently been seeking alternative energy supplies. Eddy noted that all countries are currently competing for energy supplies.

“So I think that previously we were indeed looking for various alternatives because in the current market, everyone is competing, especially those who consume large amounts of fuel and large amounts of oil and gas,” he said.

Eddy expressed gratitude for the achievements of Prabowo in the energy sector. The PAN politician said that Indonesia no longer needs to worry.

“Thus, we do not need to worry that at some point, for example, our vehicles cannot run, ships cannot sail, trains cannot operate, but with the guaranteed supply and provision, I think we can be said to have entered a safe zone,” he stated.

“Hopefully, it will continue like this indefinitely,” he added.

Previously, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, revealed that Indonesia will receive supplies of crude oil and LPG, as well as storage, from Russia.

This was obtained following technical discussions between him and Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev on Tuesday (14/4) in Russia. This meeting was a follow-up to the high-level talks between President Prabowo and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin the day before.

“Today I have just finished a bilateral meeting with the Russian Energy Minister in order to follow up on the agreement from the talks between President Prabowo and President Putin. Alhamdulillah, what has been agreed upon, we have obtained quite good results where we can increase our crude reserves. In addition, we will also be able to obtain LPG,” Bahlil said in a written statement on Tuesday (14/4).
