MPR Leader: Prabowo's Diplomacy Strategy Maintains National Stability

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the MPR RI Eddy Soeparno expressed appreciation for the success of President Prabowo’s diplomatic strategy in promoting economic stability in Indonesia following the ceasefire between Iran and the United States. “President Prabowo’s consistency in prioritising peaceful diplomacy, conflict de-escalation, and respect for international law reflects Indonesia’s free and active foreign policy oriented globally while having a direct impact on national stability,” Eddy stated in Jakarta on Thursday. This was conveyed by Eddy in response to the briefing on President Prabowo’s speech, which outlined the success in maintaining national economic stability. According to Eddy, energy price stability in Indonesia is far more conducive compared to conditions in other countries such as Singapore, the Philippines, and Thailand. “From the beginning, we have stated that escalation of conflict in the Middle East has the potential to pressure the global energy supply chain and drive up crude oil prices, fertiliser, plastic raw materials, and others. Therefore, every de-escalation effort, including the ceasefire, must be appreciated as it directly impacts national economic stability,” he said. He emphasised that the success of President Prabowo’s diplomatic strategy directly contributes to energy price stability, inflation, and economic certainty domestically. “When global energy prices are more controlled, pressure on the state budget decreases, energy subsidies are better maintained, and people’s purchasing power can be preserved,” Eddy stressed. In various statements, Eddy has consistently emphasised that national energy resilience should not solely depend on global dynamics. He urged the government to accelerate the energy transition agenda, including strengthening electrification of transportation, industry, and households, as well as developing new renewable energy, to avoid dependence on fossil fuel imports. “Effective diplomacy must be accompanied by strong domestic policies. We must build a robust energy resilience system so that it is not easily shaken by international conflicts,” he explained. Eddy also reminded of the importance of reliable national energy supply, including through strengthening strategic energy reserves and optimising the role of state-owned energy enterprises in maintaining distribution stability. He emphasised that energy resilience is an integral part of national sovereignty. “Successful diplomacy must be translated into concrete domestic policies. This is the key to enabling Indonesia to build sustainable economic and energy resilience amid global turmoil,” he concluded.
