MPR Leader: Massive Socialisation of SIBI Needed to Boost Public Literacy

Wakil Ketua MPR RI Lestari Moerdijat has stated that the availability of access to reading materials must be accompanied by massive efforts to ensure this access can be utilised as widely as possible to improve public literacy, one of which is through the School Digital Library (SIBI). “The maximum utilisation of existing literacy resources must be realised immediately and be able to encourage public reading interest,” Lestari said in a written statement in Jakarta on Saturday. Secretary General of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Suharti, said the integration allows the public to access quality books without being hindered by distance or access to physical libraries. Data from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education noted that as of 30 June 2026, more than 8.8 million people had visited the SIBI page, with a total of over 13.7 million digital books read and more than 2.6 million downloads. Lestari further said that massive and evenly distributed socialisation must be carried out immediately so that the available reading material facilities can be accessed as widely as possible by the public. She emphasised that this is especially important for communities in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost regions who have difficulty accessing reading materials. The member of Commission X of the House of Representatives also stated that the development of the digital library’s function as a literacy and innovation centre that attracts interest from all groups must be consistently pursued. She expressed hope that the government’s efforts will become a breakthrough in equalising access to education and improving literacy in Indonesia. “Support from various parties, including collaboration between the government, the private sector, and the community, is crucial to realising a smart and competitive next generation in the future,” she said.
