MPR Invites President Prabowo to Attend Annual Session on August 14

The leadership of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) has invited President Prabowo Subianto to attend the MPR Annual Session, which is planned for Friday, 14 August 2026, as a routine agenda held before the commemoration of Indonesia’s Independence Day on 17 August. “Today, the MPR leadership will meet with the President as part of a national gathering that we conduct with several state institutions,” said MPR Chairman Ahmad Muzani at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Monday. Muzani said the MPR leadership’s visit to the Presidential Palace was also to invite President Prabowo to attend the MPR Annual Session to be held on 14 August 2026. When asked whether there would be any differences in the implementation of this year’s MPR Annual Session, Muzani asked the public to wait for the session itself. “Just wait and see,” he said. Muzani stated that the activity he carried out today is a customary practice also conducted with previous presidents. The MPR has also invited former presidents and vice presidents to attend the Annual Session. “We have invited all former presidents and vice presidents, including the general chairpersons of political parties,” he said. The MPR Annual Session is a state agenda attended by the President and Vice President, as well as heads of state institutions and other invited guests. The MPR Annual Session, held ahead of the 17 August Independence Day ceremony, usually features the State Address by the President to deliver performance reports of state institutions to the public. This event is typically held on 16 August at the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Jakarta. However, if 16 August falls on a holiday, such as Saturday or Sunday, the event will be brought forward to 15 or 14 August.
