MPR Holds Exhibition of Constitutional History Archives, Commemorating the Role of Prabowo's Father, Sumitro

The Speaker of the MPR RI, Ahmad Muzani, held an exhibition of historical archives to commemorate the MPR Anniversary and Constitution Day. One of the featured archives details the role of the father of President Prabowo Subianto, Sumitro Djojohadikusumo, in the nation-building process of Indonesia.

“On behalf of the MPR Leadership, I would like to express our gratitude for the hard work of Ms Diah (Rieke Diah Pitaloka) from 2013 until now, which was supported by colleagues from Bappenas and the National Archives of Indonesia. This is a significant collaboration for our collective memory of Indonesia’s past, which has been thoughtfully curated,” said Muzani during the exhibition at Nusantara IV, DPR RI, Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (31/8/2026).

Muzani stated that the displayed archives illustrate Sumitro’s role in designing the nation’s development.

“From these archives, we learn that as early as 1951, the blueprint for the Republic of Indonesia was designed to be an industrial nation by Mr Sumitro, who served as the Minister of Industry and Trade in the Natsir Cabinet,” he said.

Furthermore, Muzani noted that the archives reflect how Indonesia was built to become a self-sufficient nation. According to him, this vision of independence was also shared by Indonesia’s first President, Sukarno.

“We do not merely wish to be an independent nation, but we want to be a self-sufficient nation in the economic, political, and cultural spheres, which is what Bung Karno repeatedly emphasised in the Trisakti doctrine,” he remarked.

Consequently, Muzani stated that Indonesia should be grateful for the roles played by the nation’s founders. He added that the task of the current generation is to carry this legacy forward.

“Our nation’s founders undertook this work with great sincerity, and what is being exhibited today in Senayan is proof that we must be thankful to them for that dedication. Our task is to continue the patterns and ways of thinking that have been implemented since the beginning of our independence,” he concluded.
