It must be emphasised that the disruptions occurring today have a character that is far faster, broader, and simultaneously impactful across various sectors. Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR RI) Eddy Soeparno emphasised the importance of strengthening human resource (HR) capacity to face increasingly complex global disruptions with widespread impacts across various sectors. In a scientific oration at the 63rd graduation and anniversary of Pattimura University in Ambon, Maluku, on Thursday, themed around Indonesia’s challenges and opportunities amid global changes, Eddy stated that Indonesia is currently caught in a vortex of disruptions triggered by technological developments, geopolitical dynamics, health crises, and environmental pressures. “It must be emphasised that the disruptions occurring today have a character that is far faster, broader, and simultaneously impactful across various sectors,” Eddy said in his statement received in Jakarta. Eddy also highlighted the impact of global conflicts on economic stability, particularly in the energy sector and supply chains. “The war in the Middle East and global tensions have disrupted energy and industrial supply chains. The impact is directly felt in the rising prices of various commodities, including energy, food, and transportation,” he said. In that context, he assessed that strengthening national energy resilience is a strategic step that must be taken simultaneously with accelerating the energy transition. “National oil and gas production needs to be increased, but at the same time, the energy transition must be accelerated. Electrification, bioenergy, as well as the development of new energy sources such as hydrogen and nuclear, become part of long-term solutions,” he emphasised. “Reskilling and upskilling are essential. The world of education must be closely connected to industry needs through the link and match concept,” he explained. He reminded of the importance of synergy between education, industry, and government policy to ensure that Indonesian HR can compete amid global changes. At the end of his oration, Eddy invited the younger generation to utilise disruptions as opportunities to develop and contribute. “The winners are those who can adapt quickly, shrewdly see opportunities, and continue to excel amid uncertainty. Never tire of loving Indonesia and contributing in your respective fields,” he said.
