MPR Deputy Speaker Urges PKH Beneficiaries to Join Ministry's Empowerment Programme

Hidayat Nur Wahid (HNW), Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR RI) and member of Commission VIII of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), has advocated for recipients of social assistance under the Family Hope Programme (PKH) to become economically empowered.

HNW revealed that the Ministry of Social Affairs runs a Socio-Economic Empowerment Programme (PPSE) providing business assistance of up to Rp 5 million per beneficiary family (KPM) in support of the poverty alleviation agenda.

“Many members of the public are still unaware that this programme exists. That is why I invite PKH beneficiary families with an entrepreneurial spirit to seize this opportunity through their respective PKH companions. It would be a shame if the empowerment assistance prepared by the government goes unused by those who need it,” said Hidayat in a written statement on Tuesday (28/7/2026).

He made these remarks during a P2K2 supervision visit in Mampang Prapatan subdistrict, South Jakarta.

The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) legislator believes economic empowerment is especially important ahead of the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia’s independence, as the meaning of independence must also be realised through ever more Indonesian families achieving economic recovery.

“With more PKH beneficiary families daring to start businesses, increasing their household incomes, and eventually no longer depending on social assistance, it is hoped this will drive a family-based community economy,” he continued.

HNW also expressed appreciation for the PKH companions who continue to assist communities in the field. He called for synergy among all parties to strengthen the success of the various social protection programmes mandated by the constitution.
