MPR Deputy Speaker Urges Consistent Beach Cleanliness in Karimunjawa

As tourist interest in visiting Karimunjawa continues to rise, maintaining beach cleanliness has become a significant challenge that requires consistent effort.

This was emphasised by the Deputy Speaker of the MPR RI, Lestari Moerdijat, during a public aspiration gathering themed ‘Environmentally Conscious National Development’. The event, which included a community beach clean-up, took place in Karimunjawa Village, Karimunjawa District, Jepara Regency, Central Java.

“The arrival of tourists in Karimunjawa does not only bring income to the residents, but also demands the responsibility of all parties to maintain environmental cleanliness,” Lestari stated in a written release on Sunday (21/06/2026).

In addition to the beach clean-up, ‘Rerie’—as she is affectionately known—alongside the Deputy Speaker of the Jepara Regency Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), H. Pratikno, and environmental activists, released baby sea turtles at a beach newly named Pantai Lestari Ceria.

Upon inaugurating the beach’s new name, Rerie expressed her hope that Pantai Lestari Ceria would serve not only as a tourist destination but also as an educational site to ensure the environment in Karimunjawa remains preserved.

The Head of Karimunjawa Village, Arif Setiawan, who is also a tourism practitioner, expressed his support for Pantai Lestari Ceria acting as a centre for environmental education.

Arif noted that, beyond generating income for the community, the beauty of the beach can foster an understanding among villagers to preserve the natural environment of Pantai Lestari Ceria.

Arif also advised tourism operators in Karimunjawa not to focus solely on profit-seeking, but to actively participate in maintaining environmental sustainability.
