MPR Deputy Speaker Reveals Indonesia's Renewable Energy Project Potential to International Financial Institutions
Deputy Speaker of the MPR from the National Mandate Party (PAN) faction, Eddy Soeparno, met with several financial institutions that are members of the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ). During the meeting, Eddy Soeparno explained, among other things, President Prabowo’s commitment to accelerating the energy transition process and climate control actions. “In addition, I also conveyed the potential of New and Renewable Energy (EBT) projects and financing opportunities for banks with a high concern for green financing,” Eddy said in a written statement on Sunday (28/6/2026). During the London Climate Action Week event, Eddy Soeparno met with a number of financial institutions that are members of GFANZ, including Deutsche Bank, Citi, Standard Chartered, HSBC, MUFG, and Bank of America. “The discussion was comprehensive, covering policy, legislation, investment and financing, as well as the support that we as MPR leaders and our colleagues at KADIN are ready to provide,” he continued. At the interactive meeting on Friday, 26 June, Eddy was accompanied by Aryo Djojohadikusumo, Bobby Gafur Umar, and Steven Marcelino from the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin). Eddy, a former international banking and finance practitioner for 26 years, also listened carefully to the problems and complaints conveyed by the bankers at the meeting, particularly the challenges and obstacles in Indonesia. “As a former banking practitioner at a foreign financial institution, I understand the complaints and obstacles they encounter, ranging from lengthy and multi-layered licensing processes, policy inconsistency, to frequently changing regulations,” he revealed. “What I regret is that today’s complaints are still the same as the problems faced when I was still a banking practitioner 15 years ago. Therefore, I assured the bankers that President Prabowo’s government is determined to cut bureaucracy and inefficiency to improve the ease of doing business in Indonesia,” he stressed. Eddy affirmed his commitment to opening the door for further communication if financing institutions encounter obstacles in the investment and business process in Indonesia. “Before concluding the meeting, I offered myself as a discussion partner or a confidant if in the future there are obstacles that cause EBT projects to be delayed,” he said. “Currently, we actually need to accelerate the energy transition process to strengthen national energy resilience and simultaneously implement our commitment to reducing carbon emissions. I will proactively help accelerate the financing of EBT projects so that Indonesia is at the forefront of developing its vast and abundant EBT potential,” concluded the member of House Commission XII.
