MPR Deputy Speaker Praises Prabowo's Commitment to Workers: Labourers Will Not Be Left Behind
The commitment of the President from the outset of his government that no one is left behind has been demonstrated once again by pledging to improve workers’ welfare through the provision of housing and mutually beneficial working conditions for business actors and their employees,” said Eddy in his statement on Sunday (3/5/2026). “We must also seize the government’s affirmative momentum towards Indonesian workers by enhancing the skills of all workers, particularly in facing the era of digitalisation, automation, and Artificial Intelligence, which will determine the competitiveness of our workers in the future,” he continued. According to him, Indonesia’s competition with neighbouring countries in attracting investments in the industrial and manufacturing sectors must be balanced with efforts to reskill and upskill the national workforce. “In the current digital and AI era, the ability of Indonesian workers to understand and proficiently utilise technology is a key attraction for quality investments to enter Indonesia,” he explained. “Investments in the data centre, semiconductor, and green industries sectors require skilled, educated workers who master technology, especially as we have entered the AI era,” he added. Therefore, Eddy encouraged the enhancement of workers’ capacities across Indonesia to be ready to compete with other countries in capturing investment opportunities to support economic growth. “The government certainly cannot guarantee that the various job opportunities available today will remain available in the future. The rapidly developing wave of technology will change the job landscape map in the coming years, and Indonesian workers need to be prepared to face it,” he stated. “What the government can guarantee now is that workers will not be left behind and will always receive attention, particularly regarding the improvement of their abilities and welfare,” he concluded.
