MPR Deputy Reveals Educators' Understanding as Key to Deep Learning Success
Understanding of the deep learning process by all relevant parties must continue to be improved, so that the learning system can be implemented in every educational process,” stated Deputy Chairman of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) RI Lestari Moerdijat in her remarks on Monday (4/5/2026).
Minister of Basic and Secondary Education RI Abdul Mu’ti, while leading the Hardiknas ceremony in Banyuwangi Regency, East Java, on Saturday (2/5), emphasised that education must nurture human potential to create individuals who are faithful, pious, of noble character, intelligent, skilled, independent, physically and spiritually healthy, honest, responsible, and possess other exemplary traits.
To achieve this goal, the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education is promoting the implementation of deep learning as a priority programme. In general, the deep learning approach is an intensive learning method that focuses on in-depth understanding of concepts in a meaningful, mindful, and joyful manner with narrower but deeper material.
According to Rerie, transforming teaching methods cannot proceed solely through top-down instructions. A systematic strategy is needed to change the learning paradigm in the classroom.
“Understanding of the deep learning process still needs much refinement, so that the learning system can be implemented in every educational process,” said Rerie, the familiar name for Lestari.
Rerie also stressed that the time for monotonous teaching methods is over. Educators in the current era must understand deep learning so that their teaching methods are more relevant and not left behind by the times.
According to Rerie, who is also a member of Commission X of the DPR RI, gradual and ongoing training based on deep learning for teaching staff is very important in preparing for the widespread implementation of that learning method.
Rerie supports the government’s efforts to implement the deep learning method gradually, with stages including training for national-level trainers. After that, dissemination or sharing of best practices, knowledge, and skills from leading schools or teachers to other educational units or fellow educators.
Then, when the capacity of teachers is deemed capable of carrying out the deep learning method, the government will gradually implement the deep learning method in designated schools. In addition to readiness in the technical aspects of teaching, deep learning must be supported by a conducive school environment.
The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has issued Minister of Education Regulation Number 6 of 2026 on Safe and Comfortable School Culture. Rerie views this regulation as a strategic step that must be welcomed with massive socialisation to all stakeholders.
Rerie hopes that with a combination of several steps, including teacher training, gradual implementation systems, and safe school environments, the implementation of the deep learning method will not just be rhetoric, but truly become the foundation for developing the full potential of students in Indonesia.
