MPR Deputy Chairman and UAE Ambassador Meet to Discuss Renewable Energy Cooperation
Deputy Chairman of the MPR RI Eddy Soeparno met with the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Indonesia H.E. Abdulla Salem AlDhaheri in Nusantara Room III on the 9th floor of the MPR RI today. This meeting discussed efforts to expand cooperation between the two countries in the field of renewable energy.
Eddy explained that he had previously met with the UAE Minister of Energy and special envoy of the UAE government to Indonesia, Suhail Al Mazrouei, in Abu Dhabi in January 2026.
According to Eddy, this meeting took place amid the momentum of 50 years of diplomatic cooperation and friendship between the governments of Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates.
“Both countries continue to strive to strengthen Indonesia-UAE cooperation and follow up on various MoUs that have been agreed upon, especially in the development of renewable energy. We all know that the UAE has shown strong commitment to supporting the development of renewable energy in Indonesia,” said Eddy in a written statement on Wednesday (15/4/2026).
“Currently, the UAE through Masdar manages the floating solar panel project in Cirata, West Java, which is planned to be further expanded and become the largest floating PLTS in the world. To Minister Suhail and also Ambassador Abdulla Salem, I conveyed the commitment to support the expansion of UAE investment projects in the renewable energy sector,” he continued.
According to this PAN Deputy Chairman, the UAE’s plan to expand investment in the Cirata solar panel expansion constitutes full support for the Prabowo Subianto Government’s plan. This is to accelerate the transition to renewable energy, including the 100 GW solar panel programme across Indonesia.
“We also conveyed to the Ambassador that we in the MPR continue to push for the steps and commitment of President Prabowo to accelerate the transition to renewable energy, including by accelerating the Oil and Gas Bill, EBET Bill, and Climate Change Management Bill,” he said.
Meanwhile, H.E. Abdulla Salem AlDhaheri expressed thanks to Eddy Soeparno for supporting UAE initiatives and investment plans in the renewable energy and environmental sectors.
“Our presence at the MPR today is an effort to strengthen Indonesia-UAE cooperation as well as to convey thanks to the Deputy Chairman of the MPR, Mr Eddy Soeparno, who has bridged and supported the UAE in various efforts to engage in supporting the Indonesian government in accelerating the transition to renewable energy,” he concluded.
