MPR: Creative economy an opportunity for Indonesia to face global uncertainty
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the MPR RI, Lestari Moerdijat, believes the creative economy is one of Indonesia’s opportunities to rise and face global uncertainty.
“The creative economy, which relies on the quality of human resources, is one of this nation’s opportunities to rise in the face of today’s global uncertainty,” she said in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.
According to her, to realise a creative ecosystem, it is necessary to develop curricula relevant to industry needs, improve the quality of teachers and infrastructure, and strengthen synergy between government, industry and educational institutions.
However, the member of Commission X of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) noted several challenges remain, such as limited education budgets, unequal access to education, and a culture that does not yet fully value vocational education.
She cited the latest Future of Jobs Report by the World Economic Forum, which states that 59 per cent of workers worldwide will need new skills to meet the needs of modern industry.
Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded that the creative economy sector absorbed 27.4 million workers in 2025, equivalent to 18.70 per cent of the total working population. In addition, the creative economy’s contribution to gross domestic product reached Rp1,611.2 trillion in 2024.
According to Lestari, this enormous potential must be met promptly with an adaptive education system capable of responding to shifting industry needs, as well as a clear roadmap for research and innovation.
“Collective movement and strong collaboration among all relevant parties are urgently needed to realise a national creative ecosystem capable of driving economic growth at home,” she said.
