MPR Chairman Views Prabowo's Bid to Mediate US-Israel-Iran Conflict as Commendable
Jakarta – Indonesia’s MPR Chairman Ahmad Muzani has praised President Prabowo Subianto’s intention to serve as a mediator in the conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran, describing it as a commendable step by the Indonesian government.
“If this can be carried out, I believe it is something commendable—an effort from Indonesia to ease tensions in the Middle East region,” Muzani told reporters at Sunda Kelapa Grand Mosque in Central Jakarta on Monday, 2 March 2026.
However, Muzani cautioned that realising this plan must take into account the conditions and situation unfolding in the Middle East. “If this can be done, hopefully it can be done. But we must observe the conditions and developments of the situation occurring there,” he said.
Earlier, President Prabowo Subianto stated his readiness to travel to Iran to facilitate dialogue aimed at restoring conducive security conditions. In an official statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu), the Indonesian government expressed regret at the failed negotiations between the United States and Iran, which have led to military escalation in the Middle East region.
Indonesia has called upon all parties to exercise restraint and prioritise dialogue and diplomacy. The government has also emphasised the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of every nation and resolving differences through peaceful means.
“The Government of Indonesia, in this case the President of the Republic of Indonesia, conveys its readiness to facilitate dialogue to restore conducive security conditions, and should both parties agree, the Indonesian President is willing to travel to Tehran to conduct mediation,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
This step reflects Indonesia’s commitment to continue playing an active role in maintaining global stability, consistent with the independent and active foreign policy that has been steadfastly upheld.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs assessed that heightened tensions in the Middle East could potentially disrupt regional stability as well as global peace and security. The government has also urged Indonesian citizens in affected areas to remain calm and vigilant, follow local authorities’ guidance, and maintain communication with the nearest Indonesian diplomatic mission to ensure their safety and security.
