MPR Chairman urges involved countries to halt war in the Middle East
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of the MPR RI Ahmad Muzani has called on all countries involved in the conflict in the Middle East, namely the United States, Israel, and Iran, to immediately halt the war and return to diplomatic channels, as the escalation of the conflict has widespread impacts on the world.
“I, Ahmad Muzani, Chairman of the People’s Consultative Assembly, call on all countries involved in the war to stop all war activities in the Middle East,” Muzani said in a written statement received in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Muzani stated that the war has caused a global economic crisis, energy crisis, humanitarian crisis, ecological crisis, and that the war shows no mercy whatsoever.
The conflict occurring in the Middle East, Muzani said, has become a global disaster affecting various aspects of life, including impacts on Indonesia despite the distance.
“The current war atmosphere raging in Iran, between Iran against the United States and Israel, is a major disaster for humanity, a major disaster for the economy, and a major disaster for civilisation and our natural ecology,” he said.
According to him, the impact of the conflict is beginning to be felt through rising prices of essential goods in various countries, including in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore, and Vietnam.
“Many countries, including Australia, have seen rising prices of essential goods. This is not caused by anything else but the war in the Middle East, and it is the greatest humanitarian disaster,” he said.
He stated that President Prabowo Subianto has always spoken that war is evil, war is dangerous, and war shows no mercy.
Therefore, Muzani reminded that Indonesia must play a role in promoting world peace through diplomatic channels and international negotiations, to actively seek solutions.
“We must return to negotiations, to diplomacy. War means we no longer believe in diplomacy and negotiations,” he said.
Therefore, Muzani said that Indonesia has contributed to world peace missions, including sending soldiers to Lebanon for a United Nations mission.
That is why the public is angry when TNI soldiers fall.
“They go to South Lebanon not for a picnic; they go to South Lebanon to carry out a UN mission, to carry out a peacekeeping mission entrusted by the UN and fulfilling our constitutional function of maintaining world peace,” he said.
