MPR Chairman Requests Government to Withdraw TNI Soldiers from Lebanon
MPR Chairman Ahmad Muzani has requested that the government consider withdrawing all Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) personnel serving as peacekeepers in Lebanon if there are no safety guarantees. Muzani’s request comes in response to attacks on UN forces in southern Lebanon that resulted in the deaths of three TNI soldiers.
“In accordance with the constitution which mandates protecting the entire nation and Indonesian blood, Indonesia should withdraw its troops from the peacekeeping mission,” said Muzani at the MPR complex in Jakarta on Tuesday, 31 March 2026.
According to Muzani, the withdrawal of all TNI personnel involved in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) should be carried out if there is no certainty of safety guarantees. This Gerindra Party politician also assessed that the area occupied by TNI soldiers in southern Lebanon is considered a dangerous region.
Three TNI soldiers were killed and five others injured in two attacks in southern Lebanon. The first incident involved an attack on the UNIFIL headquarters in southern Lebanon on Sunday, 29 March 2026. The attack on the UNIFIL base occurred amid rising escalation of conflict between Israeli forces and Hezbollah militants in Lebanon.
The attack resulted in the death of Corporal (Praka) Farizal Rhomadhon. Three other TNI soldiers were injured: Corporal Rico Pramudia, Corporal Bayu Prakoso, and Corporal Arif Kurniawan.
One day later, another attack occurred on a UNIFIL convoy, which included TNI soldiers, in southern Lebanon on Monday, 30 March 2026. The attack resulted in the deaths of two TNI soldiers: Captain Inf Zulmi Aditya Iskandar and Sergeant First Class Muhammad Nur Ichwan. Two other TNI soldiers were injured: First Lieutenant Inf Sulthan Wirdean Maulana and Corporal Deni Rianto.
Ahmad Muzani stated that the MPR extends its condolences over the incident that killed three TNI soldiers in Lebanon. Muzani said the MPR also strongly condemns Israel’s actions that have taken the lives and injured Indonesia’s best sons.
“We urge the UN Security Council to immediately hold an investigation session and impose sanctions on Israel,” said Muzani.
He also proposed that the government award honours to the three fallen TNI soldiers and the five injured TNI soldiers in the incident.
