MPR Chairman: Make Independence a Momentum to Strengthen National Resolve
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) of the Republic of Indonesia, Ahmad Muzani, has invited all parties to use the momentum of the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence to strengthen our noble national resolve.
According to him, history has proven that a great nation is not one that is immune to hardship, but rather one that never loses hope and always chooses to unite.
“Let us do our utmost to safeguard the Republic of Indonesia as our shared home, to nurture Pancasila as our common ground, and to practise democracy in a spirit of kinship,” said Muzani while delivering his introductory speech at the 2026 Annual Session of the MPR and the Joint Session of the DPR-DPD at the parliamentary complex, Jakarta, Friday.
Ahead of the independence anniversary, he expressed hope that the public would reflect once more on the meaning of the Red and White Flag flying as a symbol of national unity.
Under the shelter of the Red and White Flag, he said, Indonesia’s heroes proclaimed independence, the echo of which is still felt today, and today, still under the Red and White Flag, Indonesia continues to weave its future.
Accordingly, he urged that the Red and White not be left merely flying at the top of a pole, but must be brought to life with the spirit of courage in defending the truth.
Muzani stressed that a just economy must continue to be built in order to devote every effort towards realising Indonesia’s noble ideals of being sovereign, just and prosperous.
He also expressed hope that Allah SWT, God Almighty, would always protect the entire Indonesian nation and make the Republic of Indonesia a country that is Baldatun Thayyibatun Wa Rabbun Ghafur.
“Long live the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia! United, sovereign, just and prosperous! Once independent, always independent!” he said.
On Friday, the MPR, DPR and DPD held the Annual Session of the MPR and the Joint Session of the DPR-DPD.
One of the agenda items was President Prabowo Subianto’s speech on the delivery of the performance reports of state institutions and the State Address of the President of the Republic of Indonesia in the context of the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia.
In addition to the speech, the government will also screen a video on government performance achievements.
The annual session is a state agenda to welcome the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia, which carries the theme “A Sovereign, Just and Prosperous Indonesia”.
