MPR Chairman: Free Nutritious Meal Programme a Breakthrough for Golden Generation 2045

Jakarta - Chairman of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) of the Republic of Indonesia, Ahmad Muzani, views the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme as a breakthrough in realising the Golden Generation 2045. Muzani stated that the programme is not merely about distributing food. “This programme is part of an endeavour to enhance the intellectual life of the nation and to build a healthy and high-quality Indonesian populace,” Muzani said during his introductory speech at the 2026 MPR Annual Session and the Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Regional Representative Council (DPD) at the Parliamentary Complex, Jakarta, on Friday. Muzani noted that 81 years after independence, Indonesia should be grateful for the progress achieved. The Indonesian nation, he said, has built infrastructure, expanded education, improved health services, developed industry, strengthened agriculture, broadened social protection, and lifted millions of citizens out of poverty. However, he mentioned that there are still Indonesian children who go to school without breakfast and families who must choose between buying food or paying for medical treatment. Therefore, he said that having superior children who can compete competitively is a shared dream. Accordingly, the MPR Chairman stated that fulfilling the nutritional needs of children, pregnant women, and groups in need is a long-term investment for the nation’s future. “Our shared task is to ensure that this good objective is implemented with good governance, is well-targeted, and is accountable,” he said. On Friday, the MPR, DPR, and DPD held the MPR Annual Session and the Joint Session of the DPR and DPD. One of the agendas for the event was a speech by President Prabowo Subianto for the delivery of the performance reports of state institutions and the State Address of the President of the Republic of Indonesia in the context of the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia. In addition to the speech, the government will also screen a video of government performance achievements. The annual session is a state agenda to welcome the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia, which carries the theme “A Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia”.
