The Chairman of the Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), Ahmad Muzani, conducted a silaturahmi visit with Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta in Yogyakarta City. Muzani advised members of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta to steadfastly hold to their traditions and not be tempted by pragmatism.

The event was held at SM Tower, Yogyakarta, on Sunday (5/4/2026). In his speech, Muzani stated that if the Indonesian nation’s awareness in building the nation and state were like that exemplified by Muhammadiyah, then Indonesia would be strong.

“If the Indonesian nation’s awareness in building the nation and state is like that exemplified by the gentlemen of Muhammadiyah, Indonesia will become stronger, Indonesia will advance more, and Indonesia will prosper,” said Muzani in his speech.

Muzani advised Muhammadiyah Jogja to hold firmly to Muhammadiyah traditions and not be tempted by pragmatism.

“My message is to remain steadfast in Muhammadiyah traditions, live simply, continue to hold trusts well, and do not be tempted by pragmatism,” he said.

He stated that Muhammadiyah consists of people who live simply, renowned for their trustworthiness in managing entrusted assets. However, he advised avoiding political pragmatism.

“Muhammadiyah people are known for living simply. Muhammadiyah people are known for being trustworthy in managing entrusted assets. But even so, sometimes there are pragmatic interests, and we must strive to avoid pragmatism,” said Muzani.

“If we can avoid pragmatism, then we can still maintain idealism, and idealism is the way we preserve the purity of our struggle’s goals,” he added.
