MPR Annual Session 2026 Drops Traditional Attire, Male Participants Required to Wear Full Civilian Dress

The 2026 MPR Annual Session will again enforce a dress code requiring male participants to wear full civilian dress (PSL), continuing a policy introduced at the previous year’s session and ending the tradition of wearing regional traditional attire. MPR Deputy Speaker Eddy Soeparno confirmed the rule on Thursday at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, stating that male participants must wear PSL while the dress code for female participants will be adjusted accordingly.

The decision extends the shift that began in 2025, moving away from the long-standing practice of participants wearing traditional clothing from various regions as a symbol of Indonesia’s cultural diversity. The 2026 Annual Session is scheduled for Friday, 14 August, with the timing brought forward to ensure all proceedings conclude before Friday prayers. Eddy noted that the date was chosen as the most ideal from the standpoint of both preparation and agenda execution, adding that overall preparations are largely unchanged from the previous year, with only technical refinements being made to keep the schedule on track.

In addition to logistical preparations, the MPR has confirmed that all former presidents and vice presidents of the Republic of Indonesia will be invited to the session. The finalisation of the guest list is nearly complete, and formal invitations will be dispatched shortly, though the MPR cannot yet confirm which former leaders will attend as the official invitations are still being processed.
