MPR and Constitutional Court Sign MoU, Justices to Seek MPR Views on Constitutional Cases

The People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) and the Constitutional Court (MK) have officially signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) governing the mechanism for delivering copies of Constitutional Court rulings to the MPR. The agreement also opens the door for the Constitutional Court to request the MPR’s views in cases directly related to the interpretation of the 1945 Constitution.

The signing took place at the Constitutional Court building in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, 8 July 2026. MPR Chairman Ahmad Muzani stated that the cooperation serves as a basis for coordination between the two institutions, particularly regarding the delivery of copies of court decisions to the MPR.

Muzani explained that the MPR will be asked to provide testimony in certain cases related to the constitution. However, not all cases submitted to the Constitutional Court will involve the MPR. The involvement depends on the substance of the petition being examined. If a case concerns the interpretation of the 1945 Constitution, the Constitutional Court will request the MPR’s views. Conversely, if a petition only concerns the interpretation or review of a law, the court will seek testimony from the House of Representatives (DPR) as the legislative body.
