MPR acting secretary-general urges public to fill independence with real contributions
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Acting Secretary-General of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR RI) Siti Fauziah has called on all elements of society to fill Indonesia’s Independence Day with real contributions, such as doing positive things and expressing gratitude for the independence that has been achieved to date.
According to her, interpreting Indonesia’s independence is not enough merely by remembering history, but also by filling it through work and real contributions.
“Filling the independence that has been fought for by the nation’s heroes with love for the homeland, maintaining unity, and real work. The struggle today is no longer by taking up arms, but by fighting ignorance, poverty, and division for Indonesia’s progress,” said Siti in her statement in Jakarta on Monday.
She also quoted an expression from Bung Karno that independence is a “golden bridge” that must be crossed towards a better future for Indonesia and a just and prosperous society.
Independence, she continued, is the gateway to achieving an Indonesian society that is free, united, sovereign, just, and prosperous.
She explained that the expression “golden bridge” also serves as a reminder that Indonesia’s struggle for independence does not stop with the generation that seized independence but continues with the next generation.
“The form of struggle for each generation is different. The current generation struggles not by taking up arms, but through work, achievement, and real contributions to fill independence,” she said.
Siti said that Indonesia’s current situation and conditions, which are relatively safe and peaceful, provide space for the public to work and create and provide benefits.
According to her, this safe and peaceful situation is an opportunity that must be utilised to continue doing and contributing to national development.
“We must be grateful that Indonesia is a safe place for us. This situation should make us enthusiastic about working,” she said.
Siti specifically advised the younger generation growing up in the current digital era that amidst the challenges of digital technology advancement, the younger generation should continue to nurture unity and provide positive contributions to national development.
By being united, she said, the Indonesian nation continues to move forward in realising a sovereign, just, and prosperous Indonesia.
“Let us make the commemoration of Indonesia’s Independence Day a moment to look to the future with full optimism, so that this nation becomes increasingly sovereign, just, and prosperous, and its people live in harmony in unity amidst diversity,” she said.
