MPR Acting Secretary-General Stresses Simplicity and Honesty to Prevent Corruption

The Acting Secretary-General of the MPR RI, Siti Fauziah, has emphasised the importance of simplicity and honesty as part of efforts to prevent corruption and strengthen integrity within the MPR Secretariat General. She made the remarks while opening an anti-corruption socialisation event themed ‘From Legal Awareness to Anti-Corruption Culture’, organised by the Inspectorate of the MPR Secretariat General at the Nusantara V Building in the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta. The event was part of efforts to strengthen integrity and build an anti-corruption culture within the MPR Secretariat General.

Addressing the leadership and staff, Siti Fauziah stressed that corruption prevention must begin with small actions in daily life. She noted that seemingly trivial actions, if left unchecked, can develop into worse behaviour. “Our country’s Corruption Perception Index (CPI) scored 34, placing Indonesia 109th out of 180 countries, while our neighbouring countries are far above us. This is certainly a shared concern. Many believe that corruption has become a culture in Indonesia. We must eradicate this together. Let us start with small steps here that will eventually have a big impact on the country,” she said on Tuesday (21/7/2026).

Referring to the integrity values developed by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), which include honesty, care, independence, discipline, responsibility, hard work, simplicity, courage, and justice, Siti Fauziah placed particular emphasis on simplicity and honesty. “I specifically want to emphasise the value of simplicity. If we live simply and do not demand excessive things, our minds will not be driven to seek deviant ways to gain more and more. This is the value we must instil in ourselves,” she said. She added that honesty is not merely about not lying, but also about being upright and complying with all applicable rules, and that it is a moral aspect of life that must be upheld. “An honest attitude will foster trust and cultivate integrity at work. Therefore, there is no excuse for us not to be honest under any circumstances,” she said.

Inspector of the MPR Secretariat General, Anies Mayangsari Muninggar, stated that corruption remains a challenge that can impact organisational effectiveness, public service quality, and public trust in state institutions. She said prevention efforts must be carried out continuously, not only through strengthening regulations and supervision but also by building a culture of integrity that becomes part of the organisation’s behaviour and work culture. The event was part of the MPR Secretariat General’s commitment to strengthening the Government Internal Control System (SPIP) and supporting the effectiveness of corruption prevention. It was packaged as an interactive workshop featuring senior journalist Usman Kansong and constitutional law expert from Andalas University, Feri Amsari, to provide comprehensive insights from legal and public communication perspectives.
