Jakarta (ANTARA) - Leading Indonesian automotive consumer company PT Mitra Pinasthika Mustika Tbk (“MPMX”) is demonstrating its real commitment to nature conservation through a coral reef transplantation programme in Pasir Putih Village, Messah Island, Labuan Bajo, NTT, which aligns with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. GM Corporate Communication & Sustainability Natalia Lusnita stated that this initiative represents a concrete step by the company to deliver long-term impacts for the environment and communities in its operational areas. “Through this coral reef transplantation programme, MPMX is not only striving to preserve marine ecosystems but also opening up opportunities for sustainable economic development for the community. The programme is designed as a long-term initiative to provide more measurable and sustainable impacts,” said Natalia Lusnita in an official statement on Monday. The selection of Messah Island as the programme location was based on recommendations and coordination with the Komodo National Park Authority. Through studies conducted, Messah Island was identified as one of the priority locations experiencing significant coral reef damage. In fact, the activity had previously been carried out from 2022-2025, involving the planting of 100,000 mangroves in Golo Sepang Village, integrated with community empowerment programmes such as mangrove crab cultivation and mentoring for local potential-based SMEs. The success of that programme led MPMX to identify other environmental aspects that require attention, while also having potential for development to support the community’s economy. “We believe that collaboration with stakeholders, including local communities and area authorities, is key to ensuring the programme runs consistently and provides long-term benefits,” Natalia explained. With the collaborative spirit embedded in this programme, the company targets planting 500 coral seedlings using 20 spider frames as transplantation media. Looking ahead, the programme is designed not only to focus on environmental conservation aspects but will also be developed with a community empowerment approach through identifying local potentials that can support sustainable economic improvements for residents.
