YOGYAKARTA — The Eid al-Adha 1447 AH occasion has been utilised by the Majelis Pemberdayaan Masyarakat (MPM) of Muhammadiyah’s Central Leadership to strengthen dakwah and grassroots community empowerment. Through the ‘Sharing Virtue with Muhammadiyah Grassroots Network’ programme, 650 kurban meat packages were distributed to 11 Muhammadiyah-supported groups in the Yogyakarta Special Region and surrounding areas.

MPM PP Muhammadiyah Chairman Dr M Nurul Yamin stated that this communal kurban activity has entered its fourth year. He explained that MPM, alongside partners, consistently delivers happiness-sharing programmes for supported communities during both Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha celebrations.

‘This communal kurban event with MPM Muhammadiyah’s supported groups has now reached its fourth iteration. Every Eid, whether Idul Adha or Idul Fitri, MPM always organises happiness-sharing with the communities managed together with the supported groups in the Yogyakarta Special Region and surrounding areas,’ he said during the Opening Ceremony of the 1447 AH / 2026 CE Eid al-Adha ‘Sharing Virtue with Muhammadiyah Grassroots Network’ at UAD Campus on Saturday, 30 May 2026.

This year, MPM PP Muhammadiyah slaughtered 54 goats and eight cows sourced from partners and kurban donors. The number has increased compared to previous years. Nurul Yamin explained that this year’s animal slaughter was conducted in collaboration with the Yogyakarta City Government’s slaughterhouse (RPH) to ensure a more professional and hygienic process.

‘The animals we slaughtered today are more than previous years, demonstrating public trust in Muhammadiyah to handle the distribution of kurban meat to those entitled to receive it,’ he said.

The kurban meat will be distributed to 11 beneficiary groups under the programme, including disabled communities across various regions, Muhammadiyah Farmers’ Jamaah (Jatam), fishermen groups in Gunungkidul and Bantul, waste pickers involved in waste management at TPST Piyungan, palm sugar producers from Kulonprogo, and street vendors in Yogyakarta City.
