MPLS 2026: How Many Days? Check the Official Schedule Again

Today marks the first day of school. For new students, they will undergo a school environment introduction period (MPLS) lasting several days. The implementation of this year’s MPLS is regulated in Permendikdasmen Number 12 of 2026 concerning the School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS). This circular replaces Permendikbud Number 18 of 2016 concerning the Introduction to the School Environment for New Students. Based on Permendikdasmen Number 12 of 2026, MPLS lasts for five days in the first week of the new academic year. For Jakarta, based on the 2026/2027 academic calendar, MPLS 2026 will be held from Monday, 13 July 2026 to Friday, 17 July 2026. Prohibitions during MPLS include: hazing or other forms of violence; collection of fees or other forms of levies; irrelevant activities; non-educational and/or irrelevant attributes; involving alumni as organisers; and involving students who do not meet the criteria. Before starting subject lessons in full, schools and teachers typically have a number of special agendas in the first week. The aim is to create a positive, democratic, and orderly classroom climate. Several commonly recommended activities after MPLS include: creating a class agreement where the teacher invites students to discuss and democratically agree upon class rules, rights, obligations, and beliefs; electing class officers through deliberation or voting to determine the class president, secretary, and treasurer to train children’s leadership responsibilities; conducting an initial diagnostic assessment by giving a light written test or short interview to map students’ learning styles, interests, and basic understanding; dividing groups and schedules by determining daily cleaning duty rosters, study groups, and conveying the subject timetable; and finalising extracurricular activities by directing students to immediately fill out registration forms for extracurricular activity units according to their talents and interests.
