A member of Commission I of the House of Representatives, Oleh Soleh, has condemned the acid splashing against Deputy Coordinator of KontraS, Andrie Yunus, which is suspected to have been carried out by members of the Indonesian National Armed Forces’ Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS TNI). The PKB politician regrets the involvement of military personnel in violence targeting human rights activists.

“We strongly condemn the acid splashing action against Mr Andrie Yunus. This action cannot be justified under any circumstances, especially if it involves rogue state apparatus,” said Oleh in a written statement quoted on Thursday, 19 March 2026.

Violence against activists, according to Oleh Soleh, constitutes a serious violation of the law and democratic principles. He urged that the perpetrators be given the heaviest possible punishment in accordance with applicable legal provisions. “Firm law enforcement is important to provide a deterrent effect and ensure justice for the victim,” he stated.

Oleh Soleh requested that TNI Headquarters conduct an evaluation and improvement of internal supervision. He demanded that this incident be the last and not repeated.

Furthermore, the transparency of the TNI in handling this case will serve as the basis for public assessment of the TNI’s professionalism. For Soleh, the law and human rights must be upheld in national and state life.

“We ask the TNI to thoroughly investigate this case in a transparent and accountable manner. There must be no cover-ups. Whoever is involved must be dealt with firmly without discrimination,” said Oleh Soleh.

Human rights activist Andrie Yunus, who frequently criticises the TNI Law and the expansion of the military’s role in civilian spaces, was splashed with acid while on Jalan Salemba I-Talang, Central Jakarta, on Thursday night, 12 March 2026. Andrie was doused with a dangerous solution by two unidentified individuals. The two rode a motorcycle approaching from the opposite direction to Andrie.

The corrosive chemical liquid affected the right side of Andrie’s body, such as his eyes, face, chest, and hands. Part of the victim’s clothing also melted due to the acid. Medical examination results showed that Andrie suffered serious burns covering 24 percent of his body. Andrie is currently undergoing treatment at the National Central General Hospital Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo (RSCM).

Metro Jaya Police identified the two acid splashers with initials BHC and MAK. Photos of the two individuals were displayed during a press conference at Metro Jaya Police Headquarters, South Jakarta, on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, on the same day, the TNI Military Police Centre detained four members of the Strategic Intelligence Agency or BAIS TNI suspected of being the attackers on Andrie. The four have initials NDP, SL, BHW, and ES, from the air and sea branches. NDP holds the rank of captain, SL and BHW are first lieutenants, while ES is still a second sergeant.
