MP Urges Protection for Child Abuse Victim in Cipongkor

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Rajiv, has requested that local governments and relevant authorities ensure that the victim of alleged child abuse in Cipongkor District, West Bandung Regency, West Java, receives protection and assistance until full recovery, alongside the continuation of the legal process.

In a statement in Jakarta on Friday, Rajiv assessed that the handling of child violence cases must not stop at law enforcement but must also guarantee the recovery of the victim’s psychological condition to prevent prolonged trauma. According to him, every act of violence leaves both physical and mental impacts that equally require attention.

“What we must ensure now is that this child does not lose their sense of security. They must be able to return to their life without being haunted by fear or trauma,” said Rajiv.

He emphasised that the victim needs to receive assistance, including trauma healing services, so they can return to living a normal life. According to the legislator for the West Java II constituency, the victim’s recovery is a vital part of protecting the child’s future.

“The most important thing is to ensure the victim is safe, receives trauma healing assistance, and can return to living well. The handling must be done seriously because it concerns the future of a child,” he said.

Rajiv also urged the police to handle the case professionally and transparently to provide legal certainty and prevent the recurrence of child violence. He asserted that perpetrators must be processed according to the law if proven to have committed acts of violence.

“If the perpetrator is proven to have committed violence, they must be processed according to legal regulations. We must not let the child be the most vulnerable party without receiving proper protection,” he added.

Furthermore, Rajiv invited the public to play an active role in preventing child violence by immediately reporting suspected acts of violence to the authorities so that victims can receive prompt protection.

Previously, the police detained a man suspected of abusing his five-year-old son in Cipongkor District, West Bandung Regency, West Java, after a video of the alleged violence circulated widely on social media. The footage showed a young boy allegedly being abused by a man who was later identified as his biological father, triggering public attention and condemnation.

Cimahi Police Chief AKBP M. Faruk Rozi confirmed on Thursday (30/7) that the case is being handled and stated that the suspect has been detained for investigation. Investigators from the Cimahi Police Criminal Investigation Unit are still investigating the motive behind the abuse, including the reason why the perpetrator recorded the act of violence.
