MP Urges Police to Take Sexual Assault Case of Teenager in Banyuwangi Seriously
BANYUWANGI - Deputy Chair of Commission IX of the House of Representatives, Nihayatul Wafiroh or Ninik, has urged the Banyuwangi Police Resort to pay serious attention to the alleged sexual assault case involving a teenage girl with initials DN (15).
“I have coordinated with the Banyuwangi Police Chief to ensure this case receives serious attention and is handled professionally, transparently, and justly for the victim,” said Ninik on Monday (11/5/2026).
Ninik pressed the local government to provide comprehensive protection to the victim, from legal assistance and healthcare services to psychological recovery.
“The handling of sexual violence cases must not stop at arresting the perpetrator; we must also ensure the victim receives proper recovery,” she stated.
Previously, DN (15) was allegedly the victim of a criminal sexual assault committed by two individuals at the home of one suspect with initials DM (25).
DN was assaulted after being forced to consume alcoholic beverages until she lost consciousness.
However, despite committing the sexual violence, DM boasted that he would not face legal proceedings due to his police connections, as revealed by the Chair of the Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Consultation Institute (LKP3A) of Fatayat NU Banyuwangi, Sri Wahyunita.
“It’s done, it won’t proceed. Even if you pursue legal channels, my family has police connections,” said Yuni, quoting the statement received by the victim’s family from the alleged perpetrator DM.
“The perpetrator’s family is well-off. They own a slerek boat business in Muncar,” Yuni explained.
The case was officially reported on Friday (1/5/2026). DN underwent a medical examination at Blambangan Hospital on Monday (4/5/2026) and is scheduled for a forensic medical examination at Bhayangkara Hospital in Surabaya on this Monday (11/5/2026).
Prior to the incident, DN was invited by her friend RN to hang out at the Maron Genteng Public Green Space to meet her boyfriend. At that time, RN’s boyfriend also brought two other friends.
However, at the time to return home, DN was instead taken by RN and the others to DM’s house.
There, she was given alcoholic drinks and assaulted in a warehouse located behind the house.
She was rescued by a neighbour of the alleged perpetrator who heard noises and the continuous ringing of DN’s phone from calls by her worried father, as DN had not returned home.
