Jakarta (ANTARA) - Danang Wicaksana Sulistya, a member of Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives, has urged the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) to thoroughly investigate the accident between the Argo Bromo Anggrek train and the Commuter Rail (KRL) at East Bekasi Station in West Java.

The transport sector MP emphasised that the investigation is a crucial step to uncover the exact cause of the incident and prevent similar occurrences in the future.

“Further investigation by the KNKT is needed to determine in detail the cause of this accident, whether it is a technical factor, human error, or issues at the crossing,” said Danang in a statement received in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Commission V, he continued, will continue to monitor the progress of the investigation and urge all relevant parties, including train operators and transport authorities, to enhance safety standards.

Enhancing safety standards is deemed necessary, particularly at level crossings that remain accident-prone points, including in the incident that occurred on Monday (27/4) evening.

He also stressed the importance of a comprehensive evaluation of the crossing security system, including the use of technology, personnel guarding, and public awareness in complying with traffic rules on railway lines.

“We hope that the KNKT’s investigation results can serve as a basis for improving the railway transportation safety system in Indonesia,” Danang stated.

Based on initial information, Danang explained, the accident is believed to have started with a green electric taxi that got stuck under the KRL at the Direct Crossing Line (JPL) or level crossing number 85.

The incident triggered a chain of subsequent events. Another KRL was held up behind the KRL stuck with the electric taxi. Then, the long-distance train from Gambir to Surabaya Pasar Turi collided with the rear of the stationary KRL.

Meanwhile, the KNKT has deployed an investigation team to gather facts related to the incident.

KNKT Public Relations Team Leader Anggo Anurogo, when contacted by ANTARA in Jakarta on Tuesday, explained that the team has been at the scene since Monday (27/4) evening to collect information directly from the field.

“The KNKT investigation team has been at the accident site since last night to gather facts and information from the field,” he said.
