MP Urges KB PII to Become Literacy Agents to Boost HDI
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Abdul Fikri Faqih, a member of Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives, has urged the extended family of the Indonesian Islamic Students (KB PII), particularly KB PII in Tegal City and Regency, to become literacy agents to improve the Human Development Index (HDI). “It is hoped that KB PII can serve as agents of literacy and education by initiating non-formal education programmes or tutoring to enhance the regional HDI,” said Fikri, quoted in Jakarta on Wednesday. It is known that, based on the 2025 HDI details, Tegal City achieved eighth place in Central Java with a score of 77.95. The call was made during his role as a speaker at the halalbihalal event of KB PII in Tegal City and Regency, themed “United in Brotherhood, Empowered to Spread Blessings”. On that occasion, he also stressed the importance of alumni initiating improvements through brotherhood. According to him, the essence of brotherhood includes efforts to foster love, continuously improving relationships, building gradually, and being inclusive. That concept of brotherhood, he said, is based on principles of mutual acquaintance (ta’aruf), mutual understanding (tafahum), mutual assistance (ta’awun), and mutual security (takaful). To address such disparities, Fikri encouraged KB PII to optimise the “Four Functions of PII”, particularly in education and cadre development. As a people’s representative handling education issues, Fikri also affirmed his commitment to opening the widest possible access to education for the younger generation. Then, in an interactive dialogue session attended by Rector of Tegal State Harkat University Sudirman Said, Fikri conveyed that he often acts as a bridge for PII cadres seeking access to the Kartu Indonesia Pintar (KIP) College scholarships. He hopes that more than 100 alumni from across generations who attended can encourage current PII cadres to utilise those scholarship opportunities to pursue education as high as possible.
