MP: Trans Java Toll Rest Areas Must Be Upgraded for Smooth Eid Return Journey
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of DPR RI Commission V, Danang Wicaksana, stated that rest areas along the Trans Java Toll Road, especially in the Cirebon region of West Java, must be upgraded to ensure smooth traffic flow during the Eid al-Fitr homecoming and return journeys.
He assessed that overall security measures for Eid traffic on the Trans Java Toll Road have been good, but the Cirebon rest area experienced congestion that impacted toll road traffic, making it a key point for evaluation in Commission V of the DPR RI.
“Because Cirebon is a midpoint for travel from Jakarta to Central Java and vice versa, it needs to be elevated to a higher standard to further smooth conditions,” Danang said during a discussion held by the Parliamentary Journalists’ Coordinating Body in Jakarta on Thursday.
Additionally, according to him, the government should also address traffic issues during homecoming at several inter-island crossings, particularly in the Gilimanuk area of Bali heading to Java via Ketapang in East Java.
“I think, Alhamdulillah, our colleagues and partners have moved quickly to resolve conditions, including the Merak-Bakauheni crossing and vice versa,” he said.
Nevertheless, according to him, Commission V of the DPR RI wants to continue pushing so that no more accidents occur that claim lives, especially during the homecoming period. On the other hand, he also appreciated the decline in fatality rates.
He also viewed the government’s policy of implementing work from anywhere (WFA) during moments leading up to the end of the return journey as the right policy to break up the volume of travellers.
“Thus making human movement smoother on certain days, which becomes one solution to facilitate homecoming traffic,” he said.
