Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of House of Representatives Commission X Abdul Fikri Faqih stated that the National Education System Bill (RUU Sisdiknas) currently being drafted is ready to serve as a comprehensive legal umbrella guaranteeing protection for educators.

“Commission X of the House of Representatives has ensured that teacher protection will be thoroughly addressed in the body of the National Education System Bill being prepared by Commission X,” he said, quoted in Jakarta on Monday.

He stated that this addresses the concerns of teachers regarding the proliferation of criminalisation threats when they take actions to enforce student discipline in schools.

Faqih made this statement while absorbing aspirations from the Indonesian Teachers’ Union (PGRI) and local education communities as part of the recess visit for the Fourth Session Period of 2026 in Karimun Regency, Riau Islands.

In front of education stakeholders in Karimun, he highlighted the significant challenges faced by teachers today concerning character building, which often leads to legal issues.

He urged the public, especially the teaching community, not to worry excessively when carrying out their duties professionally.

He also explained that the RUU Sisdiknas is a codification or unification of three existing laws, namely Law No. 14 of 2005 on Teachers and Lecturers, Law No. 12 of 2012 on Higher Education, and Law No. 20 of 2003 on the National Education System.

“The hope to the public, especially the teaching community, is not to worry too much, let alone demand a specific law on teachers. This law is codified into one (RUU Sisdiknas). Therefore, the spirit is the same,” he said.

The legislator from the Central Java IX Electoral District, covering Tegal City, Tegal Regency, and Brebes Regency, invited all elements of society to jointly oversee the passage of the RUU Sisdiknas.

The bill, he said, is designed not only to protect teachers from criminalisation threats but also to regulate improvements in their welfare.

Through the RUU Sisdiknas, Faqih also hopes that a fair balance point will be created between child protection rights and teacher protection rights.

With a comprehensively and clearly regulated education ecosystem, the teaching and learning process and character building in schools can run optimally, without being overshadowed by doubts from educators.
