MP says arrest of woman's captor proves police seriousness
Jakarta - House of Representatives (DPR RI) member Rajiv stated that the arrest of the suspected perpetrator, identified by the initials TH, who abducted and abused a 29-year-old woman identified as YTR in Bandung Regency, West Java, proves the police are serious about enforcing the law.
According to him, the success is relieving news for the victim and all parties concerned about the incident, as well as proof of law enforcement’s seriousness in taking action against criminals who have disturbed the community and violated humanitarian values.
“The successful arrest of the perpetrator shows that the state is present and does not remain silent in the face of crimes against humanity,” Rajiv said in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.
After the suspected perpetrator was arrested by the West Java Regional Police, Rajiv asked investigators to thoroughly examine the case, including exploring the possibility of other parties who knew about or were involved in the incident.
He expects the perpetrator to receive a proportionate sentence in accordance with applicable laws and regulations if all the alleged criminal elements are proven in court.
“After the perpetrator has been successfully arrested, the next step is to ensure the legal process runs to completion,” he said.
According to Rajiv, the perpetrator must receive a proportionate punishment for his actions to provide a deterrent effect and serve as a lesson that there is no room for perpetrators of violence to escape legal accountability.
Rajiv emphasised that he will oversee the legal process of the case and is paying great attention to the condition of the victim, who originates from his electoral district, West Java II.
For the success of the arrest, he expressed appreciation to the West Java Regional Police and all its ranks who have worked hard to uncover the case.
“This is an important step to ensure justice for the victim and provide legal certainty to the community,” he said.
He also appreciated the medical personnel, local government, and various parties who have provided assistance and care to the victim during the recovery process.
“The victim’s recovery must be a shared concern. I hope the victim receives continuous medical, psychological, and social support so she can return to living her life well with her family and surrounding environment,” Rajiv stated.
According to him, this case must become a momentum for all parties to strengthen the protection of women and increase public awareness of various forms of violence occurring in the surrounding environment.
“We hope justice can be upheld, the victim’s rights restored, and similar cases not repeated in the future,” said Rajiv.
Previously, West Java Regional Police personnel successfully arrested TH at a house belonging to a relative of the perpetrator in Griya Pesona Housing Complex, Ciparay, Bandung Regency, on Tuesday afternoon.
